Two new elements added to the Register of the Intangible Cultural Heritage
The Ministry of Culture has inscribed two new elements into the Register of the Intangible Cultural Heritage— Corpus Processions and Playing the diatonic accordion—following a proposal by the Coordinator for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
The Register now includes a total of 137 elements and 408 evidented bearers of intangible cultural heritage.
Playing the diatonic accordion
The diatonic accordion is an aerophonic musical instrument in the shape of a box with bellows. Playing it is based on diatonic tuning and controlled direction of the bellows, as when the same button is stretched and compressed, two tones of different pitches or different chords are sounded. It is often considered a recognizable symbol of Slovenian music.
The bearers are not evidented with the unit.
Corpus Processions
With Corpus Processions around churches or in places, believers celebrate the feast of the Holy Body and Blood of Christ. While singing, reading the Gospels and making blessings, they stop at four altars set up outdoors and decorated with greenery and flowers.
There is currently one evidented bearer of the unit – the Parish of Bogojina.
The initiative to register the unit was addressed to the Coordinator by the Moravske Toplice Tourist Information Center.
